Things I have learnt about power in the last few weeks... Im not that new at this however you never stop learning. 1) its really really important to have an accurate read of your system. I discovered my voltometer was 0.5v out which is monumentally huge in 12vland. This meant I thought I was charging correctly, but wasnt meaning I nearly killed my batteries. Do you own a multimeter? 20 quid integral bit of kit. I may buy a smartgauge when I have the cash to help me monitor everything much better in the future. 2) connected to the above my somewhat knackered alternator was really struggling to do the job. Ive had a new one fitted, and also the below. 3) A digital alternator regulator (no I didnt no what that was either) is a cool little box, that regulates the charge, boosts the charge, and tells you if something is wrong. When youre batteries are charged it then automatically kicks in to a float mode... Just topping up what us being taken out. Having a little flashing box at the back of the boat telling me everything is working right is amazing. 90 quid integral bit of kit. 4) power and therefore warmth is an amazing amazing thing :)
