Things Lost, Better Things Gained Hitting your goal weight is a blessing entangled with a curse. The curse being the assumption that freedom now means returning back to all those things weve given up for the past months. (pg. 177) That, my friends, is exactly the curse I fell under two years ago. I hit my goal weight and basically decided I was cured from my battle with food. Oh, how wrong I was. All of the sacrifices and missed treats... All of the promises and prayers… Everything I had learned was gone. My chocolate deprived taste buds decided it was time to celebrate and live it up! Yes, I fell under the curse. But one thing I have learned since is that food is not the enemy here. Satan is the enemy. And his strategic plan is to render us ineffective for the cause of Christ. When we are defeated and stuck in issues of the flesh, its really hard to fully and passionately follow hard after God. So what I need to do is make this whole journey of getting healthy more about what Im gaining than what Im losing. I can. These are two words I am hoping will help me stay focused. I can will help me make wise decisions when there are potlucks at church. I can will help me to learn how to cook healthier meals for myself and my family. I can will allow me to go out to dinner with my beautiful family and having already looked up a restaurants nutritional information, I am sure to make a wise choice. I can reminds me no food will ever taste as sweet as a victory does. If there is one thing that living 46 years has taught me, its this: All Gods girls have issues. All of us. Every single one of us. We haul around bucket loads of issues. We need to make the choice to identify our shortcomings and, instead of using them against ourselves, hand them over to Jesus and let him chisel our rough places. The grace-filled way Jesus chisels is so vastly different than the way I beat up on myself!! Jesus doesnt compare. Jesus doesnt condemn. Jesus doesnt exaggerate. He simply says, Hey, I love you. Just as you are. But I love you too much to leave you stuck in this place. So lets finally turn from those things that are not beneficial for you. I like that about Jesus. I like that a lot. I like it more than chips. I like it more than chocolate. On The Journey Too, Diane
