Thinking of my Native American friends, family and relations. In the 90s I used to do half-day walks in the hills of San Leandro, Oakland and Hayward. On one such walk about I met Lenny Quatskiva - of native Miwok (to the San Leandro area) and Ive forgotten his other tribes. We walked together for several hours that first day talking and getting related but then spending the rest of the day in silence. Somehow with out ever having each others numbers we would run into out in the hills - mostly connected in silence but sometimes having deep conversations about his experience as an indigenous American. His responses to my questions were never long but always they felt authentic and heartfelt. I am thankful for these other ways of seeing and experiencing the world.
