Thirteen years ago, I was a few blocks away from the World Trade Center at 830am and i saw the explosions with my own eyes. I saw people jumping from windows and running up broadway covered in white powder, I inhaled the burning flesh. It was scary as hell and I believe in the short term, some military action was needed. There were and are some individuals who needed to be captured or removed from the human rolls. But in the long term, hatred and terror will only be defeated by discrediting the idea of violence. If we want a peaceful world, we all need to work to develop peaceful joyful calm minds. Ultimately, the solution isnt more bombs and bullets alone but a war of ideas in which the truth of compassion proves more powerful than fear. This will take time but while we focus on short term tactical measures, we cannot forget the most meaningful goal is inner peace for ALL. I wish I knew how to speed up that long term result. That aspiration is bhodimind.
