Thirteen years have passed since September 11, 2001, but the horrific events of that terrible day remain forever etched in our memories. As if it were yesterday, Americans remember our shock, anger, and fear. We watched the Twin Towers fall, saw the Pentagon in flames, and were inspired by the heroic passengers who brought down a plane in Pennsylvania. There were no Democrats and Republicans on that day. We were not divided by race, faith or region. We were all simply Americans – grief-stricken by the loss of innocent life, enraged by an unprovoked attack on our nation, and determined to mete out justice to the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Let us again put aside our differences on this solemn day of remembrance. Let us honor the lives that were lost. Let us pray for the well-being of the victims families. Let us offer our gratitude to the men and women whose courage and vigilance keep us free and safe. And let us give thanks to God that we live in the United States of America, truly the land of the free and the home of the brave.
