This Dhurpadi or Hindustani Rabab which I made several years ago - TopicsExpress

This Dhurpadi or Hindustani Rabab which I made several years ago has been imprisoned in a glass enclosure in my office as Luigi Hari Tehel Singh prefers the other from the twins I had made. This, according to him, was a little too ornate for him. Jeweler Attar Singh Talwar has the Kundan jewelry work on this Rabab while artist Vikas contributed the miniature art-work. Two gut-strings had also gone missing over the years but I was eager to tune them for Janab Daud Khan Sadozai to play and what a wonderful time we had as he explored this extraordinary instrument for the first ever time in his entire life. He will be visiting Sultanpur Lodhi and conducting a workshop for Rabab enthusiasts as well as playing a concert on Saturday, October 4, 2014. Everyone is invited. Best, bbs _______________________________ About the artist: Ustad Daud Khan Sadozai is an internationally acclaimed Sufi musician, from Kabul, Afghanistan. He studied Robab with Ustad Muhammad Umar, who was the most famous Robab-interpretor of the classical as well as the traditional folklore styles in his country. The knowledge about playing the Robab has become rare, and only a few artists still keep the tradition of the classical Robab-style which was mainly represented by Ustad Muhammad Umar in Kabul. Ustad Daud Khan is trying to preserve this authentic style of his Master’s school. Ustad Daud Khan performs frequently across Europe and at International Music Festivals. He has performed live on German TV and Radio programmes. He has been honoured twice in India -in 1988 & 1995- with the Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Award. Ustad Daud Khan heads the Academy of Indian Music in Cologne, Germany. His body of work includes The Voice Of The Mystics (Ustad Jaffer Hussain Khan-Qawwali) , The Soul Of Sound (Ustad Mohammad Umar-Robab) & A World Of String And Sound (BL Sopuri-Santoor). ____________________By Priyanka A Singh
