This FB page was not developed to promote this vineyard; rather it is intended to stimulate interest and act as an exchange of information between southern grape growers. The excellent comments on Favorite by Michael Goode, and Jack McCunn Jr. are good examples. We have an active following, but sometimes I am busy with other activities, under the weather, or just don’t have any interesting starter comments to make, and a lull in activity follows. I hesitate to dwell on this vineyard too intensely, but such a lull is in place. Here we go again. Progress, what is progress? Sometimes, you have to back up to make progress. Scroll down to the previous post and you will see ninety health vines. Today the rows shown in the first photograph are gone. They had the potential of producing a nice crop next year, and a great deal of time and energy went in to them, but their continued existence could not be justified. The second photograph shows four new rows under development. Note the raised rows, in both photographs. If you care to go back many posts (a year or so) you will see that this area of the vineyard is well drained, but the topsoil is soggy, as a result of a clay pan and low areas within the rows result in ponding. Hopefully these raised rows will help. Low areas can still be seen, but the problem they present will be addressed by trenching and filling. I hope? We have to work with the ground that is available to us.
