This Graphic Sums Up Just How Messed Up The Hobby Lobby Ruling Is ::posted Tue, 01 Jul 2014 20:21:00 +0000:: ift.tt/1jIxACn Heres your illustrated guide to American personhood. After the Supreme Court ruled on Monday that a closely-held company is not required to cover contraception under the Affordable Care Act, Sarah Baker decided to do what she knows best to make a statement. Baker, creative director at the New Organizing Institute, put together an image (below) that sums up her feelings on the ruling. “When close-minded people representing themselves as Christians use millions of dollars and an army of lawyers to make international headlines in a backwards, anti-science fight, as a Christian it drives me to use the tools at my disposal—however meager they may be in comparison—to speak out,” Baker said. “Although the Hobby Lobby case catalyzed me to make this graphic, in general Im just really sick and tired of old white men on the government payroll trying to politicize my uterus.” Baker said she is surprised that her Twitter post, which she expected to get a few dozen retweets and shares on social media, has gotten tens of thousands. But she understands why the graphic has resonated with so many. “The image is a visual representation of my gut reaction to this whole situation, so the fact that it resonated with so many individuals tells me that lots of people are feeling how messed up this whole thing is,” she said. “Im clearly not the only one who is disgusted by the patriarchy unapologetically flexing its muscles at all levels of government without regard to people who dont happen to be white, male, and financially comfortable.” Below is Bakers original Twitter post: an illustrated guide to american personhood. #scotus #HobbyLobby ift.tt/1m38CBI — Sarah Baker (@bakerbk) June 30, 2014 Related Stories Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby Debacle Supreme Court’s Blow Against Women: Christian Businesses Don’t Have To Provide Contraception Under Obamacare Supreme Court’s New Blow Against Women: Christian Businesses Don’t Have To Provide Contraception Under Obamacare [Forwarded by the MyLeftBlogosphere news engine.
