This Letter to the Editor ran in both the Tulsa World and the Muskogee Phoenix THE PEOPLE SPEAK - Inhofe should debate Silverstein for Senate: I am a registered nurse but am writing to you as both a Blue Star and a Gold Star mother -- a mother whose pride in having two sons who served in our military is matched only by the pain of having lost one as a result of that service. That sacrifice, and the sacrifice of so many other families like mine, is what makes it so hard to understand why Jim Inhofe refuses to respect the cornerstone of democracy by refusing to debate his opponent, Matt Silverstein. Debating goes back to our founding fathers and gives us voters the opportunity to assess who should serve in such a high seat as the US Senate. It is not a time for political games or maneuvering. Jim Inhofe should not get by with a political calculation to hide; he OWES me and families such as mine the respect of debating the issues so important to this country. I am calling on Sen. Inhofe to debate Matt Silverstein. That is part of the democratic process that separates us from other governments where free and open debates are not allowed and part of what my son died to protect. Not doing so is thumbing your nose at the voters in arrogance and disrespect. By Rebecca West, Tulsa muskogeephoenix/opinion/article_6cd820f4-394f-11e4-87bc-cfb749e0973a.html
