This Ponn covered bridge was actually built in 1874 by James Barnes for $2650.00 plus $30.00 for extra work. It was completed on April 27,1874 and it was destroyed by fire June 6, l874. A $1000.00 reward was offered for the arsonist, but it was never found. The rebuilt humpback bridge was insured for $1200.00 and completed at the cost of $1898.00. by Martin E. McGrath and Lyman Wells in December of 1874. It was one of five covered bridges in Vinton County and around 1995, $1800 was spent to repair it.
