This a rant on the story device of Clark not being recognized as Superman with glasses and how contrived it is. Personally, Id just give Clark a morphing ability to alter his face enough to be unrecognizable as Superman but not give him full on T-1000 abilities. Or another possibility, give him powers of hypnotic suggestion that automatically hypnotize anyone into seeing him as Clark Kent or Superman. It could work either way. The point being is that they need a rational element to define why no one recognizes that Clark Kent is Superman wearing glasses. This story was born in an age when comic writing was retarded compared to where its come. These characters endure because they are ancient archetypes that we subconsciously recognize as mythological figures. In the ages since the early superheroes weve seen the likes of Will Eisner, John Byrne (whos contribution to Superman is as important as Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster), Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Grant Morrison (the trio whos contributions to Batman are as collectively important as Bob Kane), Joss Whedon and Brian K Vaughn. We accept the whole glasses does the trick in the abstract because thats the way its always been. But its just starting to feel stunted. Its still cute but stunted. And there are a myriad of entertaining ways to address it. I originally put this in the comments section of the Clarks glasses post but I was afraid no one would read it. ;-) Please forgive me if theyd already done this in the comic. Ive never owned any Superman comics that didnt also have Batman. But I follow the coverage and wikis on whats happening in the Superman world. Comics are like sports, you still follow coverage on other teams even if you dont watch their games!
