This afternoon I stopped by my local McDonalds for a cup of coffee. I usually drink it sitting in my car at the Walmart parking lot across the driveway while checking FB, email and text messages, waiting to pick my son up from work. At any given time there are semi trucks parked there while drivers are taking their FEDERALLY MANDATED break for sleep/rest. While I am a loud advocate for truck drivers, in case you havent ever noticed, I am also quick to point my finger in the opposite direction! Today, I was on the phone with a very dear friend/driver while I explained to him that I was picking up trash in the area where drivers usually park and placing it in the garbage cans provided just a few feet away. Knowing my fervor for truckers and not trying to hurt my feelings, he slightly chastised me. I told him I do this to keep management from enforcing the no truck parking notices at the entrance of the lot. But, my friend has a very valid point. All too often a few will ruin a good thing for everyone out of pure laziness and stupidity. Why can it not be understood that if you enjoyed the safe place to park this time you may have destroyed it, even for yourself, next time? I would like to think, with the safe parking shortage across this country, drivers would hold places like my Walmart sacred. I know for a fact there are other non truck stop places where truck parking is permitted. However, these places are becoming a thing of the past due to the blight left behind by some. I truly value what you do, the sacrifices you make, for me and everyone else, in an effort to make a living for you and your family. If nothing else, think of your own loved ones! Ending my discombobulated rant!!!
