This afternoon at 1pm, NASA will announce the winners of its Commercial Crew Transportation Capability contract, which will culminate in the first manned flights to International Space Station since the end of the Shuttle program by 2017. Three companies are considered the main contenders for this contract, one of which is Boeing. It is building the CST-100 space capsule for its offering in the competition. Its design is heavily influenced on Apollo, but with a number of modern accouterments including seating for up to 7, a glass cockpit, skyblue lighting, and a pusher escape system. Boeing is considered the safe choice, as it has completed all of its milestones thusfar on time and on budget, and has considerable experience in manned spaceflight.
