This album deserves at the LEAST a 9/10. How its not more appreciated, I dont know but it is THE album that caused me to start caring about BMTH. Everything before it was eh okay I guess and thats also how I feel about Sempiternal but There Is A Hell is such a solid metalcore album. Its still pretty darned unique. The composition in every song is so epic, and thats done without relying on some keyboardist for most of the album. Not that Im insulting Jordan Fish or insinuating that what he does musically is irrelevant. I suppose I just preferred when the band had 2 guitarists to add more depth in that way than going down to 1 guitarist and a keyboardist providing the atmosphere. Its cool but I personally believe the musical quality on There Is A Hell in many ways was superior. Of course there was more aggression and intensity on TIAH than in Sempiternal. Sempiternals post-rock style sound put the emphasis on a moodier vibe and that relied a lot on the keyboard and vocals mainly. So I guess it just depends what youre into musically that determines which side of the band you like better.
