This alternative has nothing to do with the issue, said Patsy Brumfield, communications director for the Better Schools, Better Jobs campaign, which launched the ballot initiative. All its about is mucking up the ballot in November so a great many voters wont have any idea what to do. Brumfield expressed disappointment over the vote and said opponents of Initiative 42 offered misleading claims, including that of a single chancellor controlling public schools. The court only ensures lawmakers abide by their own laws regarding education funding, she said. Its a sad day, she said, when Speaker Gunn can force legislators, some from grossly underfunded school districts, to vote against the best interests of their own people.
