This are some excerpts from Kathleen’s website for some Questions, answers and philosophy What to expect My first question to you will likely be, “Please tell me a little about you and your horse.” My second question will be, “What can I help you with?” My goal will be to help you with what you feel you need help with. I will encourage you to do as much of your own work as you can, though I am happy to demonstrate certain cues, movements or help get the horse or person past a sticky spot if necessary. I rarely ride students’ horses. I will occasionally work with a troubled or stuck horse myself. My goal is to adjust to fit the situation as much as possible. There are no silly questions, whether you’re a participant or a spectator! I think it has taken me a long time to realize one of the most important fundamental truths about working with horses. Over the years, I found that some problems just never got fixed, or some things between horses and their people just didn’t change for the better. This always bothered me and I have, over decades, devoted a lot of thought to this. What I realized was that if we were not getting something to go in a better direction for a person or a horse, we likely weren’t going back far enough. Sometimes we might find we have to go back to the very beginning of halter skills, for instance, because the horse or the person has something missing there or has a misunderstanding. That “hole” or misunderstanding then colors everything else that’s been layered on top. What I have found is that in order to affect real, measureable change with a horse or a person is to make sure we go back far enough to the beginning of the missing link or misunderstanding. This is sometimes not glamorous or spectacular work, but it always leads to increased competence in horse and rider and self-discovery. This is the work for which I have a passion. I don’t want participants to leave my clinic with a “buzz”. I want them to leave a clinic with a deeper understanding of how they can be come more competent, confident and therefore more connected to their horse. The two day Private sessions will be an hour at the same time each day and is one on one for the two days. The group session is a group in the am going three days in a row and then a another afternoon group. The idea with this is so that you can watch the other group and /or go work on your own to see if what you are doing is sticking and working when you work by yourself. Then Bring back what you did to the next and improve or add on
