This article has a lot of good points. Under the clean up your act section...talk to a loan officer. You may need a down payment but there are programs out there to assist with that if you meet certain criteria. Regarding figuring out if buying is right for you or calculating a mortgage payment, I prefer bankrate and their extensive list of calculators. In MN it has become much more difficult to find out the average cost of utilities for a home, as the utility companies arent giving that information out to other people. Also regarding insurance, if you already have insurance (car, renters, etc) call your current agent, see what they have to offer you, or contact me, I can give you a few names of folks to check out for insurance.
