This article is a month old or so, but its EXACTLY the screen setup I drool over. Mixed resolution eyefinity with an ultra-wide in the middle: [1920x1080] - [2560x1980] - [1920x1080] Chuck a couple of R9-290s in a decent rig, and you can basically max most games for *REALLY* (relatively) cheap. They test with a single R9-290x and it handles it fairly well, but for about 115% of the cost of a single GTX780ti, crossfire R9-290s will destroy the performance (theyre the peak of high-end price/performance setups). As the 1440p to 4k resolution standards pick up speed in support and adoption rates, this can also be done with higher resolution monitors ie: [2560x1440] - [3440x1440] - [2560x1440]. Personally, whilst Ive used higher than 1080p resolutions and the increase in pixels *IS* beautiful, I dont think its that much more of an experience to justify the extra cost or hardware requirements where at a bare minimum triple top-tier GPUs are a minimum standard for frame rates at reasonable in-game settings. Also worth noting, AMDs drivers for high-resolution mutliGPU setups are now definitely *BETTER* than nVidia; smoother, more stable, and more efficient in output (albeit admittedly not power-draw lol). Today we can confidently state that AMD CrossFire is going to give you the better gameplay experience than SLI at 4K. hardocp/article/2014/07/23/gtx_780_oc_6gb_vs_r9_290x_4gb_overclocked_at_4k/11#.U-wTgGPN2h8 Anyway, enjoy dreaming as I have (unless youre rolling in cash in which case, build your own or better yet, sponsor mine ;) )
