This article on Clint Eastwoods new movie American Sniper raises some interesting questions about the issues at the films core and about the intentions of the director. The film seems also to have hit a primal nerve across the US stirring up ( as if this needed to be done ) patriotic feelings about country and flag and fomenting visceral hatred for those who might have the temerity to question whether the movies subject should define America. Central to the critique of the film is what Eastwoods intentions were in presenting it the way he did - concern for what the hero did or ambivalence, or whatever. Plenty of meat in this article.
