This autumn, Mugs Stump Award and Lyman Spitzer grant recipients Jared Vilhauer, Tim Dittman and Seth Timpano visited the Kishtwar Himal to attempt the unclimbed Barnaj I (6300m) and Barnaj II (6400m). They climbed 850 meters up the north buttress of Barnaj I before retreating because of rockfall. They next attempted an ice line up the southwest face of Barnaj II. They reached the summit ridge in just 14 hours, but were ultimately stymied by a “vertical pile of choss.” They descended from 6280m.
