This blizzard warning seems likes a bad movie. Noah bad. Bottom Line: Heavy Snowfall. Very Strong Winds. ICK! details here: Extreme Blizzard: Confidence is increasing that a major winter storm will affect the region Monday into Monday night. The guidance that we use has come into agreement which has led to the increased confidence levels. This storm will have two significant components: heavy snowfall and very strong winds. Timing: The snow will begin late tonight across northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, and continue into Monday evening. The snow may be heavy at times across this area, especially late Monday morning and into the afternoon hours, with 1 to 2 inches per hour possible. To the south, across southeast North Dakota and west central Minnesota, expect rain, or even a period of freezing rain and/or sleet, that will change to snow from west to east Monday morning into the afternoon hours. Snow Amounts: Snowfall totals of 10 to 20 inches are likely along and north of a band from Valley City (Barnes Co. ND), through the central Red River Valley (including Hillsboro and Grand Forks), through the Red Lakes (Beltrami Co. MN), with even higher amounts possible along a narrow band within that broader area. To the south, snowfall totals will depend on when the rain does change to snow, and may vary from an inch to 10 inches (most likely 5 to 10 inches across southeast North Dakota transitioning to lower amounts across west central Minnesota). Winds: Northerly winds along and west of the valley will increase Monday morning, becoming very strong (30 to 40 mph with gusts to over 50 mph). The strongest winds are expected from Monday morning and into the evening hours. These winds combined with the falling snow will create blizzard conditions over a large area, and for an extended period of time (Monday morning into Monday night).
