This called assimilation. News flash...... Emmit Till wasnt wearing a hoodie, Matin Luther King wasnt wearing a hoodie, El-Hajj Malik Shabazz wasnt wearing a hoodie, Amadou Diallo wasnt wearing a hoodie, Sean Bell wasnt wearing a hoodie, Cheyney Goodman and Schwerner werent wearing hoodies!!!! This mythology of how one is dressed distracts from the real issue of institutionalized racism. While laws have been passed to supposedly protect people, it doesnt change the mindset of various individuals or organizations. That you cant regulate. While the election of this countrys first black president may seem to signal a huge leap in the idea of racial equality, it seems that that very same thing set off deep seated fears and reactions in certain minds. The deep seated issue of racism or racist attitudes is so pervasive that even some that may not identify with or deny being racist express it in subtle or not so subtle ways. Through the medias daily discussion on the numerous unjustified shootings of unarmed black men, their narrative has managed to sidestep the elephant in the room and blame the incidents on everything but racism. Its reached such a fever pitch that even black people are buying into it.
