This comment comes from a past post I was involved in... Whats wrong with this picture? I agree with you. We had a lot of fun with our kids on Halloween, and it wasnt about witchcraft or anything serious. It was about dressing up and making believe. Today, we are great-grandparents, and our house is decorated for Halloween, with fun pictures of pumpkins and silly witches on broomsticks. Our kids are not monsters for having had all this fun. We like candy corn mixed with peanuts, and have a spooky supper. We are not worshiping any God other than Almighty God. As for Christmas, we never celebrated it as Christs birth, a religious holiday. But my husband carved a simple Nativity that we keep out all year round, because, had not the miraculous birth of Christ happened, there would be no salvation for us. Its a reminder. My husband also carved three crosses on a hilltop, labeled The Price. This is on the wall over our front door. Its not an idol, but a reminder of the supreme sacrifice that Jesus made for us. And yes, I decorate for the holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, and Spring (not Easter in particular). I hang out the American flag and celebrate Independence Day or fly the flag to remember 9/11 or Memorial Day or Veterans Day. None of this replaces or compromises my identity as a Christian.
