This comment was shared in my previous post about the rising crime activities...by Cary Coblantz: Greetings all, I am a detective up here at the Shoreline Precinct and I can assure you that mail theft is on the rise and it will continue to be until the state laws can be changed to catch up with the times. We follow up on a ton of these cases and I know a lot of the local suspect(s) who do this but unless they are caught in progress fleeing the scene and they have enough mail it is nearly impossible to prosecute this crime. Remember that the police these days are heavily restricted from contacting people and vehicles we believe are suspicious due to the very tight restrictions of the Washington State Constitution under article 1 section 7 so please call 911 everytime he see something suspicoius; that way if we are detailed to it we can justify a contact. My suggestion is to try to pick up your mail as soon as possible and NEVER use the unsecure mailbox to send out bills. That is one thing they are looking for as well as credit/debit cards being mailed out. These thieves are very successful and will continue to do this until the law is tightened up and taken serioulsy by the prosecutors office. Please call 911 and report all suspicious activity; not the non emergency line that way I can track all calls etc and it can assist in the event I need a search warrant for a vehicle or residence.
