This, communicating with another species - dolphins, was something - TopicsExpress

This, communicating with another species - dolphins, was something I studied and dreamed of some 30 yrs ago (I was not the only one). At the UO marine biology lab then there was scarce resources, scarce research, and most definitely did not have existing technology. I was a dreamer who thought that these animals with their great brain mass and the intelligence we could surmise by observation, could make 2 way communication, talking, possible. I studied known frequency patterns of both species late at night in the "boathouse" so the rigid scientists would not see my work. I loved it. What would these complex animals say? What could we teach each other? Well, aside from leaving my frequency analysis on the chalkboard one day, my speculation was just that, my speculation. (I did arrange to use US Navy hydrophone arrays for listening to coastal sounds) I think the closest I came was playing flute to a pod of Orcas off of San Juan Island. A little far fetched perhaps...but for a moment I felt...
