This community will pay its respect to an awesome man today.. I have so many wonderful memories of George Newberry. I knew him through his years at CHS, his years announcing at the Jr. Livestock Show when our kids were showing animals. I can still hear him saying Boys & girls, show your animals. Then in later years as a member of our Coal County Excise & Equalization Board. He was always sooo very supportive of me while I served as County Assessor...BUT, as many of you witnessed, the love & caring he gave to his Vonnie in her time of need was the most admirable thing I have ever witnessed any husband do for their wife...No words to describe it. Taking care of her & providing for her needs was his priority. Keeping her involved in life for as long as he could when it would have been much easier on him to not take her places Im sure...Such love & devotion... George & Vonnie will always have a special place in my heart. My heart is heavy that I am not able to attend this Countys day to honor this man due to a prior commitment but I know George knew how I felt about him....RESPECT, thats what its all about...RIP my dear friend.....
