This company contaminated the Ecuadorian amazon rain forest for over 20 years leaving a pollution 30 times bigger than the Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska, and what is probably the largest oil-related environmental catastrophe in the world. Chevron’s destruction of the Ecuadorian Amazon has led to a proliferation of Cancer, miscarriages, birth defects, among other health issues. In 1993 (more than 20 years ago) the indigenous and peasants from the Ecuadorian rain forest, launched a law suite against #Chevron. On December 11, 2013 the Supreme Court of #Ecuador ratified the ruling and set the final amount owed at US$9.5 billion dollars. Now, the indigenous plaintiffs are trying to gain justice in several Courts across the globe including #Canada as #Chevron does not have assets in Ecuador. On December 17, 2013, the Court of Appeal for Ontario ruled that Ecuadorian indigenous communities indeed have the right to pursue all of Chevron’s assets in Canada to enforce the US$9.5 billion Ecuador judgment, (Chevron’s assets in Canada are estimated to be worth US$15 billion dollars). So the total Ecuadorian judgment can be collected in Canada. #ChevronsDirtyHand #LaManoSuciaDeChevron
