This day in history: 11 July 1963, the South African Police raided the ANC underground Headquarters at the Liliesleaf Farm in Rivonia. The entire leadership and armed wing of the ANC were arrested, which included: Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Raymond Mhlaba, Ahmed Kathrada, Lionel Bernstein and Bob Hepple. Nelson Mandela whom was the commander-in-chief of MK at the time, was not arrested as he was serving a five-year prison sentence for leaving the country illegally in 1962.
