This deal does not make sense. Obama swapped five high-level prisoners for one Army PFC (he was politically promoted while a prisoner to sergeant. The military even promotes dead men if they are not reported as confirmed KIA.) That he had walked away from his post is irrelevant to the illogical nature of the Administrations actions although it is logical to the Armys course of action. Normally, prisoners are either exchanged at a ratio of one to one or a number of low-ranking men are swapped for one senior officer. In this case, one low-ranking Army enlisted men was exchanged for five high-level prisoners. Not only that, the White House did not consult with Congress at all, as it is required by law to do. Believe it or not, the U.S. Constitution and Federal law requires the Executive Branch to answer to Congress for their actions, with the possibility of impeachment as a result. This president has basically been ignoring Congress ever since his party lost control of the House in 2010. As far as national security goes, I doubt that any Middle Eastern militant group will ever be able to directly threat the United States. In this case, the danger is that these five men may (and no doubt will) return to command positions in the radical Muslim effort to control Afghanistan. As far as Bergdahl goes, hes coming home to an uncertain fate. Unless the White House intervenes, the Army is bound to investigate the circumstances of his disappearance and subsequent capture and he is subject to punishment under the Universal Code of Military Justice if it is determined that he left his post of his own recognizance. What that punishment would be will depend on the decision of a military court. Personally, I think Obama will order the military to leave him alone and give him a decoration. Yes, this whole thing was a political act just as Franklin Roosevelts insistence of bombing Japan in election years (1942-44) during World War II when his political fortunes were threatened were political acts.
