This email came today from my friend Luther Cale: (luthercale/ ) Amazing! =================== The Sky is Falling, The Sky is Falling! =================== I have had the good fortune to live parts of my life in a magical spot known as the Valley of Longevity. This is a little slice of heaven on earth where the temperatures are springlike the whole year, everything is lush and green, and the pace of life is shockingly slow. I even wrote my last book in this sacred valley. One of the coolest things about this place is that it attracts characters. No one living in the small town set in this valley is what you would call vanilla. The British guy who won the lottery and then dropped out to drink cheap beer. The dot com millionaire that is searching for the next miracle product. The raw food guru who wants to build a raw food community in the forest. The people in this place are interesting. You may like em or they may drive you nuts, but they are not boring. I discovered another peculiar aspect of this community the first day that I saddled up to the bar to have a beer. Everyone has a conspiracy theory and they love to share it with you. Even if you didnt ask to hear it. Especially if you didnt ask to hear it! Before I had finished my first bottle of beer, Grizzly Adams at the bar next to me had hit on the NSA, CIA, WHO, GWB, HAARP, UFOs, Chemtrails, Free Energy, and Aliens. In monologue format. Now, I sat there slowly drinking my last sip of beer, nodding my head, but inwardly thinking, What in the world do I say back to this guy? Let me be clear ... I have no problem with conspiracy theories. I enjoy people and ideas that go beyond the official, accepted versions of what is supposedly real and true. In fact, I was well versed on all the subjects that he was talking about. There is indeed some weird shit going on the world. And some people do have a seriously nefarious agenda. But this dude had shat all over me and I dont like when people do that. I put the bottle down and out of my mouth popped the following question, If everything you say is true, then what do you think is the best use of your time and energy on this planet? I think you could have heard a (zero-gravity) pin drop. Grizzly was speechless. Finally, he roused. What do you mean? I repeated the question, If everything you say is true, then what do you think is the best use of your time and energy on this planet? He sat still for a long time (again). After a while, he managed to mutter, Awe, youre just like all the rest of them. And then he just sort of stumbled off, aware that he no longer had a captive audience on which to spew. But I sat there and thought about the question that had popped out of my mouth. If everything he said is true, what would be the best use of my time and energy on this earth? I was pretty sure it wouldnt be to sit at a bar in a small town spewing fear to strangers. In fact, it would probably be something in the opposite direction ... Raising my own vibration to that of love, hope, wisdom, passion, and purpose. Inspiring others to do the same. Showing them how. Joining with others to create beautiful things, emotions, and experiences in the world. Being a light unto myself, an indomitable force for good. To me, that would be a good use of my time and energy in a world dominated by constant fear. How about you? Even if you dont go by the latest conspiracy theories, you can look around and see we live in a strange world, in strange times. So much beauty, so much destruction. So much love, so much hate. So many closed hearts and minds. So much possibility that we have yet to realize. The question to think about this week is ... What is the best use of my time and energy on this earth? What do I really want to do/be/create while I am here? In that case, what is the best use of my time this year? This week? These arent easy answers to come to. They take time to percolate. But like all of the questions in this series, I think the impact that they can have our on our lives -- and consequently, the lives of those around us -- is worth the effort to dig deep. To get clear. One of the best things about working with these types of questions as a lever in your life is that YOU are in control. The answers come from YOU. The answers are perfect for YOUR life. They are not from some guru on high or some holy book passed down and reinterpreted through the ages. You learn the gentle of art of listening to yourself, of trusting yourself. The answers come from the still, wise, silent part of you that always knows what is the next best step in your life. I know that you can do this and that together, every day, we are making the world a better place. As always, I wish you the best in your reboot and the best in 2014. Luther luthercale/
