This embarrases me greatly. But it doesnt surprise me. One of our PA representatives in Washington, Congressman Lou Barletta, is co-sponsoring a bill to eliminate the only remaining significant legal mechanism that allows non-family immigration to the US - the Diversity Visa. The Diversity Visa creates a limited number of visas that are available by a lottery drawing each fiscal year. The DVs are distributed among six geographic regions and no single country may receive more than seven percent of the available DVs in any one year. Its not enough that Lou Barletta helps stymie any legislation to re-design our broken immigration system until we tighten up the border some more. Now he wants to create an even more closed country. I cant believe we have such xenophobes representing us in Washington! Ill be keeping an eye on this horrific bill and hope it dies shortly. Please, if you care about our country and the new energy and ideas that immigration brings to us, let your representative know that this bill would NOT make good policy for our country. house.gov/representatives/find/
