This evening I was reminded of one of our greatest blessings-Freedom of Religion-as 40 or so folks gathered in a prayer circle around Wilderness Elementary. I cant think of a better way to start off the school year. This prayer was shared: Heavenly Father, This evening, we gather in Your great name, to seek Your face and favor And to bring our petitions before an all sufficient God. We acknowledge that You are Supreme and the earth is Your footstool. We praise You for the wondrous and mighty works of Your hand. We pray for peace in our world, our nation and our community. We ask that You comfort those who live in the shadow of war and terrorism and suffer under the fear of death. We seek peace for the families of the innocent, whose lives have been taken in vain. We pray Your protection over the lives of our service members around the world who defend freedom on our behalf. We commit into Your hands, all those who work to uphold what is good and righteous in Your eyes. We pray Your healing for those that suffer from sickness, famine and disease, both on our soil and in distant lands. We ask for Your name to be lifted up, the name that gives HOPE, thereby breaking bonds of oppression and abuse, We ask for Your protection over America, our home land. For our President and elected leaders to first seek Your counsel and wisdom, For our nation to be firmly established on Your Holy Word. Bridge the gap between individuals of different races, color, religions and nationalities. Remind us that You created each of us in Your image with a purpose and plan. Help us to love one another as You have loved each of us, Break our hearts for what breaks Yours. Our nation is hurting, we pray for mercy and justice. Remind us who are our neighbors and that we would see and meet the needs of others. To be kind and compassionate to everyone we encounter in our daily lives. We pray for peace and calm to reside in our homes. We ask for protection in our streets, neighborhoods and towns; Over our firemen, policemen and those who place their lives in danger every day, And that people may go about their lives under Your protection. Protect our children, O Lord. They are even more precious to You than they are to us. Send Your angels to watch over them, by day and by night. Allow them to walk under the shadow of Your wings, And that they would know Your peace. May they have a warm and safe place to rest their head, Food to eat, and unconditional love. Give us words of encouragement to build them up and patience to teach them all they need to know. And finally Almighty God, continually shape us into the image of Your son, Jesus Christ. May our conversations, thoughts and actions reflect You to the world and Your Son be glorified. Amen
