This female bloodhound presented late last week for anorexia and vomiting. She was examined and radiographed with no definitive diagnosis made. At that time she was treated symptomatically for gastrointestinal disturbance and discharged to home care with medications. Her anorexia and other clinical issues continued over the course of the next 3 days. Late Tuesday night she was re-examined...with a portion of carpet protruding from her rectum. She underwent a 3 hour exploratory surgery Tuesday night during which an 8 long string of carpet was removed from her gut via 7 different incisions. The string extended from her stomach, through her small intestine, through her large intestine, and out her rectum! She is now recovering from surgery in the hospital with expected discharge this afternoon. Wish her luck during her recovery!
