This goes out to all the protesters and celebrities wearing the I cant breath shirt. First of all the definition of CHOKE is as follows... (of a person or animal) have severe difficulty in breathing because of a constricted or obstructed throat or a lack of air. The technic the officer was trying to apply on Mr Graner was a sleeper hold or vascular neck restraint, which by definition is not a choke. The technic applies pressure to the carotid artery, restricting oxygenated blood to the brain, not restricting the air way. If the officer was choking Mr Garner then it would have been hard or impossible for him to clearly say I cant breath cause his trachea and larynx would have been crushed. What most likely caused his breathing problem was positional affixation. Meaning based on his size and position on the ground while resisting arrest lead to his inability to breath. Other factors that could have contributed to his death was his asthma, obesity, and a pre existing heart condition. Factors that were most likely brought up in the Grand Jury hearing.
