..........This group is not simply about an injustice against ONE MAN, or injustice against one family, or the trampling of the good people of the great State of Alabama.....the FIRST STATE (well, alphabetically at least - sorry, Delaware!) ;) Nor is it about the corruption of one individual or one particular cabal, or one political party. It goes deeper than than, right to the core of who we are as a nation; as Robert Frost said, Two roads diverged.... . AMERICA is being cheated, and has been cheated out of a BETTER PRESIDENT than we had from 2005 to 2009 (or perhaps unto 2013). . Don Siegelman would undoubtedly have been elected President in 2004, if not for the machinations of the White House, from the Chief of Staff on down. This makes Watergate look like a bubble-gum safari. . Whatever Watergate was, it did NOT cheat America out of a better President. Nixon was a shoo-in for re-election; although Muskie or George Wallace would have been stronger contenders against Nixon than McGovern was. . Nixon did not need to campaign for re-election in order to win it. His accomplishments were outstanding. Nixon was destroyed by the ambitiousness and bootlicking of his subordinates. They werent doing Nixon any favors by orchestrating a Dirty Tricks committee which bulldozed Edmund Muskie out of the race, and most likely attacked George Wallace. Nixon was GOING TO WIN re-election in 1972, no matter what. . George Bush, on the other hand, was a flop as President. He won election - (IF YOU CAN CALL IT A WIN) - on his name, and nothing else. But the victory was so narrow that the Bush political machine swung into action in 2002, as soon as they saw the Bush Jr. approval rating slipping into the gutter. The #1 accomplishment of President Bush Jr. was 9-11 - (IF YOU CAN CALL THAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!) - Take away 9-11 and the cynical exploitation of that tragedy from the Bush Jr. administration, and Bush has NOTHING. In fact, Bush would never have been able to eke his popularity rating very far above 50% at any time during his Presidency, without the 9-11 factor. . The political strategy of the White House in 2002 was twofold - AND TWO-FACED. In foreign policy: START AN UNNECESSARY WAR (STRAIGHT OUT OF MACHIAVELLIS POLITICAL WRITINGS!) . In domestic matters: FRAME DON SIEGELMAN! . The 2003 war in Iraq was a device to boost the popular vote for George Bush Jr. . The framing of Don Siegelman was a device to protect the Republican Party from losing a single state in the South - and if Don Siegelman, the former Governor of Alabama, had been the Democratic nominee for President in 2004, YOU CAN BET THAT DON SIEGELMAN WOULD HAVE CARRIED ALMOST EVERY STATE IN THE SOUTH, leaving Bush with only the electoral votes of TEXAS, (and of Kennebunkport, Maine!) . The fact that Don Siegelman - a man who not only could have been elected President of the United States in 2004, but who would have been A VERY GOOD PRESIDENT - is in prison now, means that metaphorically, you and I are right there in prison with Mr. Siegelman. It isnt only his rights that were truncated by the Bush political machine - YOUR RIGHTS and MY RIGHTS were also thrown into the trashcan, by this sordid and sycophantic kangaroo court frameup of Governor Siegelman. . This song - THE WALL, by Kerry Livgren (KANSAS) is very, VERY prophetic as to what would happen to Governor Siegelman some thirty years on. Please....read the words! Anyone with an EMPATHY QUOTIENT above 100 can easily imagine: THIS is what brave Governor Siegelman must be thinking - as he carries the spiritual torch unwaveringly for the fallen nation that by right, he should have been elected to lead....listen to this song, right down to the last hopeful words.... the final, triumphant ending of this song from which we can all draw spiritual inspiration. In spite of it all, we know that WE, in OUR HEARTS, must SUMMON the COURAGE to KNOW and BELIEVE that we can MAKE THESE WORDS TRUE: . THERE.....IS.....NO......LOSS! .
