This happened in my family too. All but the being deaf part. And I am proud to announce that love of my child easily trumped any other matter. My child was brave, recognizing his gender and articulating it. We met that bravery with love, compassion and understanding without a second thought. We too lost a few friends and family as we made the shift, but with suicide rates for transgender children at 41% due to lack of acceptance, loosing a few unaccepting friends was a price I was more than willing to pay. Thank you to each and every one of you who meets Luke with acceptance, understanding and love.
