This happens more than most people realize. In Idaho, we have a local grocery store chain called Ridleys that Ive caught over charging me on numerous occasions over the 11 years Ive lived in my small town where they have no competition. Out on the sales floor prices are marked one way, and at the register, they FREQUENTLY ring up higher. Note that its never lower at the register; always HIGHER. This indicates that its intentional. Of course they always claim that oh, youre right! Someone must have made a mistake by marking the price as too low on the floor. Yeah. It wasnt a mistake. What percentage of their customers do you think actually watch to see if the pricing at the register is consistent with the pricing out on the floor? Ill bet its low, so if they apologize to the very few customers who actually pay attention, theyre still ripping everyone else off and not getting caught. Ive even been told that you cant take pictures inside the store. They say this so its harder for you to prove theyre ripping customers off. Ill tell you; some business owners have zero ethics. They have no problem stealing from their customers, breaking the law wit false advertising, as long as they maximize their daily profits and arent held to account for it. Ridleys: theyll rip you off because they think youre too stupid to catch them and not determined enough to build a case against them and press charges.
