This has always been what it boils down to in Laker Land. Kobe fans versus Laker fans. Kobe fans still regard him as the best player in the game. Laker fans are not delusional. I recognize Kobe for his accomplishments and his unparalleled work ethic. No one is more competitive than he is. Ever. Im talking more than Magic, Larry, or Jordan. The dude may have once had the most complete game in the history of the game. At his paramount, best footwork, best defense, best offense. But NOW, now hes older, coming off of career-threatening injuries, and cannot be expected to play at the same level. Weve seen it with Iverson, Marbury, Stevie Francis, Tracy McGrady, guys whove been dominant in their heyday and couldnt adjust to a limited role. They disappear into obscurity. Only this time were talking about the winningest Laker in franchise history. Im all for loyalty. Id like him to Retire a Laker. Id like for him to move up in the organization, become a GM or head of basketball operations or something. But retire for actively playing. We need the salary cap space and the team needs to grow. Either that or learn to like a passive role, being the third or forth option. Either way, #LakersForever
