This has been a difficult, emotional day. I, along with the rest of our church choir, sang at the memorial service for our beloved organist, Christina Lee. She came to America as a young bride, in 2000 from Seoul, Korea. Already an accomplished musician. In 2002, she came to our church to play for us. Never before, had our organ and piano sounded so magnificent as they did when she played. Her fingers were magical. Some people have talent, Christina had a God-given gift. In Dec. 2013 she was diagnosed with stomach cancer--a very common stomach cancer in Korea, but very rare in this country. It was decided that she would return to Korea for treatment as her Korean health insurance was very good and the specialists were there who had treated her father for the same kind of cancer. She left in Jan. 2014 for Seoul. She had extensive surgery--removal of her entire stomach and part of her pancreas. Did well after this and started Chemo. Then, she contracted a blood infection, sepsis, and her body could no longer fight back. She died on March 2, two days after her 38th birthday. She leaves her husband and 2 grade school age children, sisters, mother and father, plus a host of grief stricken friends and students. Since, Christina and her immediate family were active in our church as well as the Korean Presbyterian Church, both churches participated in her service. Since music filled her life, music filled her service. We cried, laughed and sang, and cried some more. Both churches were blessed not only by her amazing musical gift, but also her vibrant, warm and caring presence for 11 years. Not nearly long enough for any of us, but the choice was not ours to make. She has left a huge void, but heaven has gained an angel and heavens music is now a whole lot sweeter. Rest in Peace dear friend.
