This has been an observation by me which many a readers of The Times of India, those on Facebook and on Twitter shall agree with regard to The Islamic Republic of Pakistan. This is with regard to any political movement unrest or a military coup or incidents of terrorist violence occurring in Pakistan is perceived as their own creation. No doubt Pakistan has in the past sponsored terrorism in India, under various ideological garbs viz moral support to the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir nevertheless an aspect that cannot and should not be ignored with regard to the present situation in this neighbouring country is the critical situation they are facing on account of terrorism. There can be counter argument to this view with regard to the critical situation in Pakistan is their own creation but what cannot be ignored is the threat to Indias security as a result of the growing terrorist violence in Pakistan. As a nation Pakistan is a now embroiled within the complex problems of fundamentalism and terrorist violence wherein this Islamic Republic must come out successfully. The role the Pakistan Army has to play as an institution at this juncture is crucial and vital for the existence of Pakistan. The existence of Pakistan as a nation fighting religious fundamentalism and terrorism makes it important for India and so does its integrity. Should Pakistan breakup as a nation into various small states the problem of religious fundamentalism and terrorism shall multiply which shall increase the magnitude of threat across India and entire Asia. There comes a time in history when the role of a nation that has not been a very cordial neighbour becomes important and this is the situation when Pakistan has become a nation of importance for India and her neighbours. Hence the need of the hour is to refrain from promoting distrust and antipathy towards this neighbour and try being a cooperative neighbour. This is the only way India can display their diplomatic maturity as a nation and prove that their intentions towards their neighbour are constructive, amicable and peaceful.
