This has been on my mind lately....just wanted to share. When the tornado hit two years ago Woodward really came together. It was something really awesome to see. It made me proud of my home town. There were a lot of public safety entities that got a lot of recognition, and rightfully so. However, one entity that did not get near enough publicity was the Woodward Fire Department. The entire department responded to this incident, even off duty personnel. The speed and accuracy was unequal to anything Ive ever seen. I only say these things because I was there, I saw it. The firefighters were in the process of removing people from debris and using life saving measures, when most everyone else was still trying to figure out where to go. Many of these men deserved medals of valor for their heroic actions that night. They did not receive the recognition they deserved. Ive seen a lot of interviews and videos of other agencies that responded and got to tell their story. Im not saying that they dont deserved that attention. But WFD should have received more. I will say this however, WFD received a lot of gratitude and recognition from the one place it counts most and that was from the citizens of Woodward Oklahoma. Ultimately that is all that matters to them. I just wanted people to know how it all went down and the type of people we have protecting us.
