This house at 2614 S. Hughes was designed by Amarillo architect Guy Carlander for a Mr. Ray C. Johnson, Sr. It was built in 1927. The boy with the bicycle is Ray C. Johnson, Jr., standing in front of his house at 2614 S. Hughes with his first bicycle in 1929. The third photo is Ray Jr. sitting with his friends and his dog Lindy on a small porch on the north side of Rays house. Lindy was named after Charles Lindburgh. The last photo is Ray Jr. sitting in the family car in front of his house in 1927. You can seen in the background that Ray and his family did not have many neighbors at the time. The black & white photos come from the book Amarillos Historic Wolflin District, by Christine Wyly. The color photo comes from a great slide presentation of the home at the Web site linked below.
