This humid, overcast Saturday has actually started off very nicely. We headed out early, before it got too hot, to the Cherry Street Farmers Market. Oh, how I love that place! All the smells of the fresh veggies ...... mmmmm.....plus the restaurants around there are starting their early morning prep and you can smell that, too. So many nice people and the gun toters are still staying away. I guess they just wanted to prove a point. Of course, the first thing I made sure I could get was more of those wonderful cream cheese croissants that I got last week. They only had four left so I bought them all! Mike was pleased when I got back to the car with them! Today, I was fortunate enough to get some fresh blackberries along with some fresh salad greens and more cherry tomatoes. My tomato plant is just starting to really take off so hoping it will keep me supplied in short time. I have to be careful at this market because it is easy for me to over buy - my eyes are bigger than my stomach - and I cant eat all that I buy in a week. Luckily, what little I had left over from last week is still good, like the Brussels sprouts. Omigosh, I had never had truly fresh Brussels sprouts before last week and if I ever have my own place again with a garden space, I may just plant it all in Brussels sprouts! I cant even begin to tell you how much better fresh sprouts are to frozen or what you buy for fresh in the store. There just arent words for them. I steamed them in my microwave and left them a little crunchy and put a little salt, pepper and melted butter on them. I dont normally add salt to anything but these just seemed to need salt. Wow! What a feast for the senses. After I fix my two boys their lunches, I think I may have a chefs salad for lunch. Sounding good! We also made a couple of garage sales and hit the jackpot at one estate sale not too far from the apartment. We started not to go since we live on the poor side of town but then went anyway as I pointed out to Mike that at one time this area was a new and nice area (70 years ago). We were not disappointed at all! The house was lovely, wish we could afford it. We found a huge collection of CDs to go through and ended up with 23 that were of Dorsey and James bands in the 40s and 50s when Sinatra was with them. Also found others with the same era with Nat King Cole, the Andrews Sisters, even an Elvis CD. Since we both love the big band era we thought it was a great find and the CDs were, get this, 50 cents each! Some of them are boxed sets! What a find! The lady running the estate sale also has a store in downtown Sand Springs that sells items to be repurposed and she is so nice. I think she said she is at 2nd and Main and the name is The Storehouse. There is supposed to be a facebook page but I have not yet checked that out. When it started to get more humid and hot, we decided to head for the house. Hope the rest of your day goes as well as ours started!
