This immigration issue illustrates perfectly why I have a hard time labeling myself conservative anymore, and feel like a fish out of water so often among them. I believe there should be a wall. I believe the border should be very strictly enforced. I believe most of these people need to be sent home. HOWEVER...that doesnt mean we hate them. Why cant we, as Christians (as most conservatives claim to be), help out these kids at the same time we criticize our government? What the hell did these kids do to deserve this? This is what so many conservatives have forgotten: they view almost everything through a POLITICAL lens FIRST, and forget about their Christian calling. The overall tone on this issue is hateful, vindictive, and pissed off. About kids? About innocent children? I see some people go after my friend Glenn Beck for what? Helping out these kids with food and toys and clothes with PRIVATE money? Are you serious people? Are your hearts so stony and so cold? What does helping out some kids in a crappy situation through no fault of their own with private funds have to do with politics? Isnt it just the RIGHT thing to do? Some say that money should be going to Americans first. Well Im sorry, thats bullshit. Ill just back from the Middle East. I saw real poverty and hopelessness. America remains a light that people want to come to, which is why I am for strict laws, but also making it easier for people to come here. America IS a nation of immigrants. It always has been. Lets solve this politically. Lets disagree politically and duke it out, fine. By all means. But when we see someone hurting through no fault of their own, many of whom are desperate to come to a place like America, and our first reaction is to damn them...then I think the only people we are damning is ourselves. If it is conservative to think that doing things like what Beck is doing is wrong, then I no longer am one. If that is the case, then good riddance. I gladly turn in my C card, and I have zero interest in getting it back.
