This is Bens Journey. It was late at night and I was on the NC - TopicsExpress

This is Bens Journey. It was late at night and I was on the NC shelters site looking at the dogs that were available working on saving one or 2 dogs and I had just spotted Ben when Dawn Schultz-Sacks had sent me a message wanting to save Ben because the next morning he was going to be PTS. She even said she would foster him or do what ever just so we could save his life but we needed to talk to Tammy Nikischer before saving him and Dawn and I were going back and forth for quite awhile hoping he would stay safe until we could get ahold of Tammy in the morning since it was around 11 or 12 am but suddenly out of the blue Tammy had messaged me and that was NOT normal for her to do that late at night but it had to be meant to be. Tammy said yes she will notify NC shelter and let them know we want Ben pulled to safety and Dawn and I were so happy and relieved. Well Ben did get pulled from the shelter but not by anyone the shelter knew nor did we know. A lady came in and took Ben and left. I was freaking out as to where did Ben go since OFCR was suppose to get him so after several hours and talking to people we found out that Ben was pulled by this lady who prior to this night was posting on the shelters face book page begging people to save Ben or help her with the adoption fees because she wasnt going to let this boy die. He was hrs from dying. This lady went into the shelter and told them she was there to take Ben and foster him for OFCR so the shelter let her and off she went. I scrambled the next day trying to get ahold of her then finally I was able to speak to her on the phone and she informed me she was keeping Ben and she would try and find a new home for him. She didnt want to turn him over to OFCR because she didnt know what would happen to him so after a long explaination letting her know we would make sure Ben was safe and we would find him a great home she decided to trust me and who we were as a rescue and let us have Ben. She did foster him for a couple of weeks until the transport went down to pick him up along with a group of other dogs we had saved from death. Ben arrived in Buffalo and he was stunning. His foster Joanna L Urbaniak came and picked Ben up and took him home but when he got there Ben did not like her dog and he didnt like our white boxer either, i think he had something against white dogs, so Ben needed a new foster so I took him in. I had already had a foster that needed to be somewhere alone while going through HW treatment but I took Ben in anyways. Thor was horrible and the best escape artist and he hated to be alone and he would chew through things trying to get out the door. Thor hated to be alone but he needed to stay quiet and no activity during his HW treatment and I tried to keep him in a crate but he wasnt having it so after a lot of trial and error and tons of frustration trying to figure how what to do with thor yet keep him alive because he had such high anxiety it was unreal. I decided the only choice I had was to put him in the garage with Ben to see if being around another dog would keep Thor calm and after awhile low and behold that was exactly what Thor needed and Ben and Thor became best friends even though they couldnt actually play with each other just the company helped keep Thor calm so Ben became a therapy dog which sadly held him up from being adopted and getting to live in his own furever home but we had no choice. I think Ben saved Thors life because even medications to sedate Thor didnt calm him but Ben did and it was so important to keep Thor calm. Well as time went on the best solution for Thor was to allow him to roam around the garage while poor Ben had to be stuck in a 10by 10 kennel so he didnt play with Thor. I Wasnt able to kennel or crate Thor so again poor Ben had to be the one cooped up for Thor. On a few occasions I would walk in the garage and find Thor had gotten into the kennel with Ben or Thor would break Ben out and both would be loose in the garage. Another time Ben was in the smaller kennel and Thor was out loose but when I got home Ben was out of the kennel and Thor was in the kennel and everything was intact with the kennel, i swear we had a ghost in the garage. Those 2 were so great together but as time went on my heart was breaking that I was using Ben to keep Thor happy and it was eating at me. Ben deserved his own home and I spent hrs crying feeling so bad for Ben. Finally Thor was adopted by this wonderful family and it was Bens turn to get adopted but now hes alone in the garage and I couldnt handle that because it wasnt fair to him so this wonderful man, Glenn Fluman said he would like to try and foster Ben and he did but sadly no one had an interest in Ben for quite some time. We finally had a few people interested in him but we didnt feel they were his home so finally ( we were hoping he would all along ) Glen decided he couldnt give Ben up and Molly needed a brother so Ben finally got his furever home and its where he belongs. Ben is happy, healthy and well loved and his looking for a home journey is ended.
