This is Boss. He came in at 4:30pm on Saturday in severe respiratory distress, barely able to breathe and a dark shade of purple. His body temp had risen to 106 because his airway could not open enough to get him enough oxygen. My amazing nurses sprang into action after my receptionist Katie carried all 60# of him to the treatment room. All five of us worked on him- got him incubated so he could breathe and on Iv fluids to bring down his body temperature. Affie was able to get an Iv catheter in him ( which if you know bulldogs is hard in a good day). Dr Jenny, Trevor, Fran, Kristen, Stephanie and Affie all worked together to get him stabilized. Once we realized his problem was a very long soft palate obstructing his airway after he got excited today, we offered the clients the option of doing surgery tonight to fix the underlying problem. So at 6 pm he had surgery ( for the long soft palate, everted saccules and stenotic nares ) and by 8 pm he was walking out the door to go home. This is the first time in his life I think he may have breathed through his nose. One late night - but one happy dog! And thats what makes our day!!!
