This is Claudia Elliott, editor, writing to our Facebook community. Im wondering what you think of this. Tonight, the Golden Hills Community Services District Board will meet. This will be the last meeting of the current board with one of the members (Bud Sargent) retiring from the board since he did not run for reelection and another member (Laura Lynne Wyatt) leaving the board as two challengers (Marilyn White and John Buckley) were clearly the winners in the Nov. 4 election. On the agenda for tonights meeting has been placed a request for the board to approve new 5-year contracts for its General Manager, Assistant General Manager and Business Manager. The contracts include automatic renewal provisions and if subsequently the district does not renew (other than for cause), then the employees will get severance payments for up to 18 months. Thats the simplified version of the 10-page contracts. What do you think? Should local governmental managers have such contracts? Should a lame duck board enact such contracts? What best serves the public in this situation?
