This is Dolly. My family rescued her in the spring of 2013. If you can believe it the sheriff found her wondering the streets almost starved to death. She is the sweetest most loving basset around. But because of her time on the streets she eats anything in sight. She will get on the counters, get I to the cupboards and no trash can is Dolly proof. Last Christmas when my family was out Dolly got into the cupboard and opened up a box of mashed potato flakes. When my family came home they did not realize what she had done and allowed her to drink a lot of water. In just minutes she started to bloat and fell over. My family put her in the car and rushed her to Emergency Vet. They did X-rays. Her stomach had not turned yet. They put a tube down and released the food and gas. Then gave her prescription gas medicine. We were very blessed we got her there so fast. Ever since she has a problem with Gas. We give her Gas X with every meal. Watch when and how much water she drinks and feed 3 smaller meals. But, Dolly still gets into trouble whenever she can. Just a couple of weeks ago she got a bad of chicken Jerky off the counter in laundry room and ate most of the bag. We rushed her to vet. Thank a God no bloat. More prescription Gas meds and walks to move the treats along. But then I Bella Reed who only got a few of the treats stared throwing up that night. Mom took me into vet as soon as my vet opened. Not thinking anything was really wrong. The Dr. Informed my mom I had a severe case of pancreatitis and only had a fair chance of making it. Because my mom brought me in right away I responded very well to treatment and made a full recovery. I am now on prescription dog food for the rest of my life.
