This is Estelle Lipsitz, master chef. A picture of her at her stove sits above my stove. She is the patron saint of my kitchen. She was my neighbor growing up and my second mom. She brought me chicken soup when I was sick. Made me chopped chicken livers when I watched TV at her house. Cooking was her art. She taught me how to cuss in Yiddish, with her Georgia (Savannah) accent. I have stories. She was funny, brash, mischievous and loving. She helped instil in me an abiding love of Jewish culture.
