This is Gemi. Like a person w the rarer blood type waiting for an organ transplant, Gemi will need a very special angel assigned to her. You see, Gemi is terrified of everyone and everything. She was surrendered by her owner who claimed to not be able to feed her, yet when we offered to help w that if it meant Gemi could stay in a home (especially when seeing how terrified she was at the shelter), the owner fessed up that she just no longer had time for Gemi, and frankly could not be bothered w her. Gemi is absolutely terrified at the shelter, however she is making progress. Very slow progress, but progress none the less. Im not going to lie when I say most shelters would consider her unadoptable and most likely euth her. Thankfully for now we have space, time, and the willingness to allow her to decompress while we try to gain her trust. Owner was very dominant w her, lacked simple empathy and understanding while at the shelter bearing witness to Gemis extreme fear. This is not a judgement, just a clear observation. Kept telling Gemi to behave, while commanding her w an iron fist type tone. I finally had to tell her that my immediate goal was not to train Gemi, but to gain her trust. The first day that Gemi was there she growled a low and continuous growl when I walked into the room. At NO time did she attempt to bite or approach the front of her kennel in an attack mode. She isnt growling w/ those who handle her now but she is still extremely fearful, and men are out of the question. Every day Im seeing progress though. Anyway, we at the RRAS will continue to work w her, being patient, in hopes that there is an angel for her. She deserves this.
